About "Never Look Away"

The self-titled debut from California based Folk-Rock Singer-Songwriter artist Allison vonBuelow is out now. vonBuelow is best known for her work with California based Progressive Hardrock band, Scarlet Hollow. “I have waited all my life to be able to bring this CD to light.”
– Allison

1. Fly
Fly was a reaction to people trying to convert me to their various forms of coping. My thoughts were that one should make the most of the gifts given to you from wherever you believe that they came from. If you believe that they came from a diety.... fine... I don’t really care where they come from. I’m just grateful to be me.

2. Julian
A love song. Also about being grateful.

3. Never Look Away
I wrote part of these lyrics a long time ago with my ex, James, who is a brilliant lyricist.
This song is about not looking away when we see things that are unpleasant...... really see the homeless and be generous....... Those that are more fortunate need to be grateful and pay it forward... Don’t look away and therefore ignore.

4. Direction
This song is about paying attention to your inner truths. When you are sailing or camping or spending time within a nature-filled environment, you are hit with your own inner dialog.... truths you can’t ignore....... it is also about the value of friendship...

5. You Can Cry
You Can Cry is about my dad. So much expected..... His parents laid down rules and expectations that were insurmountable to a little boy. He saw the difference between what they said vs. what they did.

6. Mask
Mask is a dark song written by me in a dark period. I felt I was being manipulated into doing things that were not in my best interest. I was intimidated and not strong enough at the time to stand up for myself. That changed.

7. Color My Heart
My brother wrote these lyrics. Every day his young daughters, 3 and 6, would sketch and paint....... They would ask him to put their drawings up on the wall. Pretty soon his dining room and kitchen had drawings covering the walls. This warmed all of our hearts that we're privy to their inner worlds........ The artistic diary of these two young lives.

8. Perfect Love.
This is how I feel about my beautiful husband. He is the light of a perfect love.

9. On The Outside
You know, that feeling of not fitting in and feeling like you are on the outside looking in......

10. 911
Every songwriter on the planet got out pen and paper after the September 11th fiasco. That event woke everyone up. There was no way to process the deeds of a passionate few. The writing was the only way many could express their feelings about and /or the inability to deal with and understand what happened that day.

11. Real Life.
Pure fantasy. Picture an aging actress who hasn’t had much success in her career...... and she is getting older and is having a hard time dealing with that and letting go of a lifelong dream of hitting the big time.a song. When I do, it usually means I have feelings that need to be analyzed and worked out. Songwriting is one way I do that.

12. Watercolors
Pure fantasy. Picture an aging actress who hasn’t had much success in her career...... and she is getting older and is having a hard time dealing with that and letting go of a lifelong dream of hitting the big time.
Addendum to Watercolors..... I guess the song is about me. Ha.

13. Love Heals
After the birth of my brother’s first daughter, I babysat one evening........I saw him go into her room to check on her..... he didn’t know I was there and I saw him touching her tiny fingers. He had tears in his eyes...... The love there could have fuelled the entire world. He loved that baby so much..... it radiated from him.....

I witnessed a very intimate moment in time. This song is about that. My brother and I went through some tough times in our youth...... I saw the healing power of love that night and many since. Love Heals. It really does.
